Three-Lion Fruit Basket (Corbeille aux Lions)
“Inspired by a drawing by Garneray in 1800, this fruit basket is typical of the transitional period between the style “à l’antique” “(very in vogue at the end of the 18th century) and the advent of the “Empire” style.
These chimeras are generally represented with a lion’s head, a goat’s body and a snake’s tail.
This basket, by requiring more than 50 hours of work, symbolizes the remarkable know-how of our goldsmiths.” -Maison Odiot, Paris
