Three-Sphinx Fruit Basket (Corbeille aux Trois Sphynges)
“This basket evokes the Thomire style with which Odiot and his team worked. Similar pieces in solid silver were made for Tsar Alexander I in 1814.
With her lion's body, the sphinx originates from Ancient Egypt. It is often endowed with a feminine head and wings, to reinforce its fantastic dimension. This motif reappeared in 1798, following Bonaparte's trip to Egypt.
This cup, which could be used for the presentation of desserts, also participates in the decoration of the table; offering splendor and wonder to guests.
This exceptional and emblematic piece of Maison Odiot, requires more than 115 hours of work and symbolizes the remarkable know-how of our goldsmiths.” -Maison Odiot, Paris
