Harboring a distinct advantage over wool, alpaca fiber is tuber in nature. While only 18-20 microns in diameter, alpaca fiber is hollow. This cavity is responsible for the remarkable thermal insulating capacity of alpaca fiber. Cutting down on weight, the empty inner chamber allows warmth to truly “fill” the knitted garment. Even the loosest jersey stitched sweaters retain more head than their thickly knitted wool counterparts. Alpaca is a highly desirable material. We purvey Royal Alpaca (the finest grade of alpaca), Baby Alpaca (clipped between 6-8 months of age), and Alpaca Merino blends (for added support and warmth). The finest alpaca fleece comes from the Prime Fleece regions, typically found on the chest. Almost seven times warmer than traditional sheep wool, and at a fraction of the weight, alpaca is suitable to be both worn independently, or as part of a layered look.
