What is Cashmere?

At The Lanam Shop, we believe that exceptional garments begin with exceptional materials — and cashmere is one of the finest natural fibers in the world. Known for its buttery softness, insulating warmth, and lightweight feel, it’s the cornerstone of our men’s and women’s cashmere collections.

What Is Cashmere?

Cashmere is the soft inner fleece collected from Changthangi and Pashmina goats native to the Gobi Desert of Mongolia and northern China. Unlike traditional shearing, cashmere is gently brushed from the goats, preserving the delicate fibers and ensuring both softness and ethical treatment.

Why Is Cashmere So Special?

  • Ultra-soft with a fiber diameter finer than most wools
  • Lightweight and insulating, perfect for cold-weather layering
  • Naturally white fibers dye beautifully and evenly
  • Brushed — not sheared — cashmere preserves fiber length and quality

Our cashmere is sorted, dyed, and spun in England, then knitted by hand in Scotland. Every step reflects generations of expertise in fine luxury knitwear.

The Lanam Shop Difference

Unlike mass-market cashmere, we use tightly spun yarns from hand-brushed goats and craft our sweaters using traditional methods in Scotland. Each garment is hand-framed, hand-joined, and hand-finished — ensuring it’s made to last a lifetime.
