Welcome to The Lanam Shop Blog

On behalf of the entire team at The Lanam Shop - Welcome! We are delighted you found our online store and we hope to have the opportunity to guide you through our extensive selection of fine products. Our newly redesigned website is now available for you to explore and we hope you enjoy some of the new features we have added. In the weeks ahead, we will be sharing some of our most viewed and requested blog topics for those who wish to learn more about our fibers and providers.

Crafted in the finest European workrooms and ateliers, our products are produced in small quantities by skilled hands. Honoring generations of tradition, the offerings shown in our online catalog reflect both our values as a purveyor and also our house style. Purposefully crafted to last, only the finest raw materials are selected. From concept to completion, we consult our dedicated team of manufacturing experts and style advisors to ensure that each piece we produce meets the highest standards possible: yours. Best described by a long-time brand observer as “understated elegance”, we are neither flashy, nor corporate in our approach.

Artists may sign their work but we do not; at least not outwardly. We never brand the exterior of our garments, but rather let the evident quality and style serve as our unarticulated hallmark. Generations have worn these same styles, their way. The enduring virtues of our garments allow them to be easily adopted into any wardrobe. Yours for the molding, our pieces serve as the solid foundation upon which your personal style can grow, be refined, and reshaped. No matter how your circumstances, personal style, and use may change, our core collection will always be the workable basics ready to be reinvented into something new, different, and individual. They are classic and transcend styles and trends.

Most of our collection is privately labeled under ‘The Lanam Shop’ name. We work with over a dozen mills in Scotland and a half-dozen in Peru to produce our wide-range of products for men, women, and the home. Crafted to our specifications, no detail is overlooked by our quality assurance team. We have developed our unique fit which we have been able to adopt across provider, material, and style. This helps you shop with confidence. Once you know how our products fit you and how their shape naturally shifts with you over time, you can confidently reorder and special-order pieces. As always, we offer a comprehensive, no-hassle return policy. Additionally, to better guide you we have produced comprehensive size charts for all of our products.

Each piece is carefully inspected as it arrives into our custody. We review fit, color, detailing, overall quality, and hand-feel carefully. Each piece is hand-crafted, one piece at a time. Many of our Scottish factories use antique knitting machinery and some are still powered by a waterwheel. Hand-produced and hand-finished sweaters will have natural, and unavoidable, deviations from the pattern. Similarly, we work with yarns that are dyed in small batches or are completely undyed—some are hand-graded on the basis of natural color. Bearing that in mind, we do not allow for any noticeable or significantly quantifiable deviations. The acceptable range for color deviation is extremely narrow, almost unnoticeable… except to our experience and trained staff. Moreover, we do not permit garments to have a significant size deviation from the main sweater pattern: usually this is only a small fraction of an inch.

Quality is our core fiber. It is integral to everything that we do and the guiding theme in all of our collections. We will not settle for humdrum, nor for second best. Whether your purchase is for yourself or a gift for someone dear, know that your investment will endure. Like people, our products need air and life! Use them, enjoy them, and care for them properly. Ultimately, our products will last as long as you wish to care for them properly and give them use.

Proper Care:

Always fold sweaters and store on a shelf; never hang them. Hangers leave marks and heavy sweaters will stretch-out under their own weight.

Hand-wash occasionally with an all-natural natural, mild detergent. Use one rich with naturally derived lanolin. Let the garment air dry flat and reshape. Not all garments can be washed, some must be dry cleaned. Please follow all instructions on the garment’s care label.

Store in a cedar chest during the off-season and protect them from cedar oil by wrapping them in acid-free tissue paper. Do not store in plastic garment bags, use ones made with natural canvas instead.

Gently reweave pulls, as they occur. Seek professional help for large pulls, or if you are unsure how to do this properly.

Remove small pills if they begin to form after extensive use.
